But never dared to ask if they were true

The World is governed by people far different from those imagined by the public.

Benjamin Disraeli (Victorian Prime Minister of Britain)

Ten unquestionable beliefs

I say 'unquestionable' but of course all things can be questioned because we live in a free society. I mean, no one is going to throw us in a cell or flog us if we express our opinions, are they?!

Don't make me laugh! It's not like we live in the dark ages!!

True, we may suffer a little verbal abuse for our opinions, be labelled 'crackpots' or 'lunatics' or 'nutters', we may be ridiculed, booed, perhaps pushed or shoved, stories of past neglect of our hamster may be spread to defame us, we may receive sarcastic comments or ever so slightly raised eyebrows or even be sneered at, or we may be ostracised by our peers, but well, that's hardly encroaching another person's liberty, is it?

Anyway, no opinions are expressed here - only truths. And far be it from me to question them. Here's ten truths for you..

1. Presidents and Prime Ministers get to their position through their own merit and votes - of course! Nothing could be more democratic than that! True, Burke's peerage the 'bible' of royal and aristocratic genealogy based in London and other genealogical sources (including New England Historical Genealogical Society) do indeed show that the majority of American presidents are descendants of royal bloodlines originating from Europe. And apparently every presidential election since and including George Washington in 1789 has been won by the candidate with the most royal blood. But elite bloodlines?! What nonsense! Coincidences do happen.

Again and again.

Similarly Prime Ministers - they're elected through the democratic process. An awful lot of them are members of the The Trilateral Commission and the Bilderberger club but come on! world leaders must attend these secret meetings - the people who are running our planet should be allowed to get together and discuss our future without anyone butting in....well, yes, Prime Ministers tend to already be members of Bilderberger when they're elected but well, that's just a coincidence.

Yes, politics is full of coincidences.

2. Government health authorities, WHO, etc are out to protect us - of course that's the way it is, isn't it? Well, maybe that's an idealistic view of the world, a bit out of date these days - they're busy people after all and can't think about our welfare all the time.

3. No cure has been found for cancer - well, if one had been found why on earth would it be kept secret?! Medical mafia?! What nonsense!

4. Aliens have never visited this planet - well, everyone knows that one is true! That they visited the planet thousands of years ago and are now part of us....well, that really is a crackpot theory! Of course, there are those ancient Sumerian tablets depicting space ships and giving detailed descriptions of beings from other planets...but well, it's all rather farfetched! Oh come on, let's be serious now! Of course the world began with two bare people, an apple and a snake.

5. Sunscreen is good for you - well, there's no denying that one. Besides, who's got anything to lose by it not being true?!

6. The media gives a real picture of how things are - of course, they tell us the whole story. Climategate? Well, yes, they've been quiet in reporting it but only because it wasn't worth reporting. The dangers of the swine flu vaccines? Well, who on earth wants to read about alternative quackery? Even if people's lives are at risk - it's no good filling the papers with it now is it?

7. Global warming exists - of course it does! The press says it does, the government does, the data shows it's true - everyone knows it's true! Why wouldn't it be?!

8. High cholesterol is bad for you - well, who's going to argue with that? True, medication for lowering cholesterol is notoriously expensive but that's because it works. What? High cholesterol actual prevents infections? Well, no one needs to know that - it'll only confuse people. (Explanatory Hub)

9. Whatever our opinions on the above, we're all free! Free to do and say what we please - free to express our opinions, disagree, dissent, stand up for our rights...we are, aren't we?

Of course, we are!

10. Everything you read that is suppported by facts, graphs, statistics, expert opinions is the gospel truth - that's why there's no need for you to check up on anything I've written here - just take my word for it. What? Check information that you're given? Think for yourselves? Get informed?

Now that doesn't sound like a very good idea.

I love Big Brother - we all do...don't we?

Happy New Year Apricot.

Me thinks if we sat down with some fine ales and possibly some jazz tipped cigs we could come up with 100 things that are true and we should dare to ask.

Keep on hubbing and stay in touch.

Ha! I loved this one! It was very clever of you put in all of your those links. I mean hey, I'd love to meet you one day, just not in a nuthouse, lol. I read up on just about everything you mentioned here and have my own views. And from what I gathered, we all need to wake up! Thanks apricot!

Green Lotus - Happy new year and congrats to you too - you certainly deserved it!! Ah, bless yer dear heart for sayin' that!! It's funny, I never thought of myself as a poet but I'm starting to like it...one of these days I shall sit down and write an ode to pizza!

Happy new year culinarycaveman! Yes, I could definitely be prompted to think of many others to add to that list! It would all be more palatable washed down with some fine ale though! Speak soon!

Dohn - tee hee! They're coming to take me away as we speak so I'll be quick - there's certainly a lot of waking up to be done and not least by my own self. If I wasn't so busy munching on pizza all the time I would have asked myself questions long ago!

Well done you for reading up! Top marks!

Hi Ethel Smith! Don't worry about the high cholesterol - I've got it too and all I do is avoid cheap packaged stuff and trans fats etc but as for medication - I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole! I'll keep you informed 'cos I'll be writing a hub on cholesterol in the next few days! Thanks for stopping by and happy 2010!
