Dialogue with my subconscious, day three
50
12th May 2010 (Wednesday)
“Hello Boss, I’m here signing in – it’s two thirty or it was, it’s now nearly ten to three, oops. I was looking at ginger biscuit recipes on the internet.”
“Don’t get distracted – now is not a good time to think about food. We have work to do.”
“Boss, my head’s really sleepy. I would have been snoozing right now but I took your advice and came to speak to you. I’m not sure how long I can resist though.”
“You’ve just had your lunch – of course your head is fuzzy, it always is, you should know that by now.”
“I know, I know – but if it’s fuzzy it means it wants a rest.”
“It’s fuzzy because your body’s digesting. And if you have a rest you’ll wake up feeling useless, not much rested and as if you’ve thrown the whole day away. It won’t be worth it, believe me.”
“But even if I do work I don’t feel like I’ve achieved anything.”
“But you feel better because at least you’ve tried – and you’re writing now. It doesn’t matter if it’s nonsense, it’s writing. That’s all that counts when you’re trying to get back into it. You’ve got to retrain your head to write.”
“I suppose. Well, I’ll try. I don’t feel like it this afternoon though.”
“I know, but you’re going to write anyway.”
“Yes, all right. I’m hungry. I could just eat a nice ginger biscuit.”
“Because you’ve been dribbling over those ginger biscuit recipes, that’s why. You know why internet is banned during the day.”
“Good thing too – torturing me with all those photos of moist and chewy ginger biscuits, that’s hardly fair. Aah! I’m hungry.”
“Stop saying it to yourself and get on – it’s nearly three, I’ll give you until four thirty.”
“Ok. Can I sit and blub at the computer?”
“If you must, but just don’t think about food. Off you go.”
“Hasta luego.”
“Stop showing off.”
“Sorry. Bye for now.”
